We all know that Jac the Disco just played Fabric. That’s just common knowledge. We decided to find out what it was like to play in 55 person capacity gastro-pub in Kettering.
1 So Fabric. It’s not that shit a venue is it?
Well not really – most big clubs tend to be a bit shit, but because fabric seems to be about 3 storeys down with a maze like arrangement I think it gets away with it. And when the bouncers aren’t accusing you of dealing drugs (in a secret room with no cameras) and beating drug dealers up in front of you, its pretty good fun.
2 In the beautiful words of R Kelly, were you “true to yourself”?
Of course – we don’t know how to be anyone else!
3 I imagine Riton, Erol Alkan and the Filthy Dukes were all terrible? It’s ok, you can be honest.
We missed the Dukes set, I caught the first part of Erol’s set which (dare i say it) got a bit bored of so went back to Room 3 for some disco boogie action. But Riton’s set – fuck me he was playing a full on electro/rave/bang out set.
4 What kind of set did you play? Any tracks which broke the ceiling in?
It was the standard JTD disco/early house stuff, but we did have the crowd dancing by half ten, so we were pretty chuffed with ourselfs!
5 Dan’s (stopmakingme) doing alright for himself huh?
Blatently. He’s an incredible DJ and his productions are getting better everytime he completes one.
6 From New York, to London to Paris. Disco is getting massive. Thoughts?
Disco’s always been massive! It’s just evolved – house came from disco. Take for example all the french filter house guys in the 90s such as Daft Punk etc. Filter house = 909 drums + disco loops + filter.
I know the more recent stuff has been more reminiscent of the older stuff, but it has always been there. I think its a bit of a reaction to the now commercial electro house scene which just got a bit silly and needs to have a word with itself. And everyone loves disco.
7 We can’t give you Fabric, but we can give you a beach-side venue whilst people sit cross legged, look seductive and drink bloody strong black coffee. What can we expect from you for Baise-moi?
Me with a sampler, and Jay (he is the half french one after all) on vocals doing a cover of this.
8 Top 5 tracks since the new year? Feel free to include any B.I.G.G.I.E or Kate bush.
Coma Cat by Tensnake is massive – expect that when I’m down in february, also ZNTN remix of Clouded Vision, Shit Robots new remix and a couple of others which we can’t think of now. Or can’t be bothered to think of. Or don’t want to tell you. Or we’d have to kill you if we told you.
