Three and dead

Renowned for his bass heavy genre-blending dj sets, Sinden criss crosses the globe turning clubs on their heads with a sound that is all his own and collects fridge magnets along the way.

SINDEN [Mad Decent / Deadly People / Grizzly]
He keeps one step ahead of the game when it comes to finding new music through his DJ magazine column and groundbreaking show on Kiss FM which was the first of its kind to host an eclectic selection of music that includes Funk Carioca, Baltimore Club, Kuduro, Juke House, Southern Hip Hop, Dancehall, House/Electro and much much more.

Graeme learned the production game under Switch's wing and together they began to bust down doors and create many progressive and unclassifiable rythms. Being rather good at toying with others work has seen an impressive diverse reel which includes mixes of Miike Snow, Jack Splash, Robbie Williams, Bassment Jaxx, Bjork, Armand Van Helden and Mark Ronson.

This year he started his own label Grizzly which saw the release of ‘Midnight Marauder’, his own collaboration with hugely talented SBTRKT, the label has gone on to release material by the likes of Brodinski and WAFA. Other recent work includes playing ping pong with Riff Raff and Kid Sister for the amazing Hide n Seek and his first solo release 'G like me' is just about to drop on Mad Decent. It's bloody good.

Same shit, different date

So we're moving 474 yards down the road to a new venue with chesterfields and a nice harbour view and we welcome Kitsune duo Joe & Will Ask for their Cornwall debut. Apart from that it's largely the same, except for the fact that we have a handy contact at Pool Spar shop and are toying with the idea of free scotch eggs for the first 50 through the door...

JOE AND WILL ASK [Kitsune / Deadly / Gulp]
They are two men. They met in 2005 from very different musical backgrounds, Joe was releasing drum and bass 12” records while Will came from the hard house and trance scenes. Their typographically nonsensical name represents their relentless passion to constantly explore genres of music, and represent their different influences within their own characteristic sound that they have become so well known for... fusing electro with house, big room party techno bangers and a penchant for disco. The above was copy and pasted from two online bios, but we're confident they'll absolutely smash it and it's quite perfect for Saturday the 23rd July regardless of any scotch eggs. They really are bloody good.

A Band Apart

So after a 5 month break where one of us has stared at eagles and dead bodies in rivers whilst the other has gotten really into post, post ironic hip hop and the Archers (swag) we're back on the 14th May in St Ives. A mate of mate is a mate right? NO. No mates here you bastard. Tosh Ohta is a mate of a mate and is very good. So is Capture the Castle. If rumours are to be believed the Isobar is going to become Caesers palace or some shit so come and celebrate with us and kill it one last time. A Band Apart.

TOSH OHTA
Without doubt one of this country’s most eclectic DJs Tosh Ohta has made a name for himself through his open minded music programming and stunning technical ability. He prefers all vinyl sets which is odd because so do we.  A self confessed music crate digging obsessive, Tosh’s encyclopaedic musical knowledge means his sets are filled with a plethora of lost, past, present and everything from here to someplace far away (like Glasgow or some shit). His sets have destroyed dancefloors across the globe and led to residencies at Fabric, Big in Japan and Bournemouth’s legendary Maison night where Tosh helped a little south coast club night become one of the UK’s most respected nights out.

Over the last few years he's played records alongside the likes of Erol Alkan / Greg Wilson / Justin Robertson / The XX / Friendly Fires / CSS / Groove Armada / 20:20 Soundsystem / Disco Bloodbath / Simian Mobile Disco / The Unabombers / Filthy Dukes, Stopmakingme & Kill Em All / The Nextmen / DJ Derek / Uffie & Feadz

Next he's coming to St Ives to probably kill the Isobar for one last time. God knows what we'll do next, probably give up and open an owl sanctuary or something ironic in a self obsessed way.

Hate is a strong word

The 18th of December is clearly cursed. Sinden is out. He'll be back though. In the mean time we thought we'd get together with the biggest and most credible night in the UK, KILL EM ALL. They like death and birthdays and so do we so we teamed up for our second birthday and bring you FILTHY DUKES and STOPMAKINGME.

KILL EM ALL
FILTHY DUKES began as Olly Dixon and Tim Lawton working together, where they promoted various club nights and DJ sets. They would go on to play supporting DJ sets for Mylo, Hot Chip and LCD Soundsystem, as well as release remixes of bands such as Late of the Pier, The Rakes and The Maccabees. The duo then joined together with long-term producer Mark Ralph to begin playing live. After the pair recognised a thirst amongst a public raised on both guitars and electronic music. Bored of the dull notion that the two scenes should be kept separate, the Filthy Dukes decided to unite dancefloor-geared DJs with hard-edged scuzzy rockers, and went on a quest for artist that embraced both disciplines.

STOPMAKINGME has been wowing the crowds at Fabric for a couple of years now. He has also gone onto impress other djs, with requests from Simian Mobile Disco to support them on their UK tour as well as Tim Sweeney from DFA, and a certain Alexander Ridha to play the Uk launch of the new Boys Noize album 'Power'. Time Out said of him "more corrosive than a DFA remix, more minimal than an Optimo re-edit, his jams are ones to get utterly lost in".

The team of Filthy Dukes and Stopmakingme marches on alongside newest resident Riton as the UK's most consistent night pushing boundaries of music, KILL EM ALL. With a residency at Fabric and recently released Fabric 48 mix album the brand is going from strength to strength. Their previous guests will blow your face off and includes: Justice (live & djs), Erol Alkan, Chemical Brothers, Friendly Fires, Boys Noize, Maccabees, Cut Copy, Clor, Late Of The Pier, Aeroplane, The Proxy, Crystal Castles, James Murphy, Popof, Surkin, Zombie Nation, Digitalism, Brodinski, In Flagranti, Jackson And His Computer Band, Busy P, Joakim, SebastiAn, Metronomy and the list goes on...

Not only do they have the most credible night going, Kill Em All Records started in 2009 with releases by Plugs and We Have Band with more coming in 2010.

TIMBO SYMONS
You should all know by now. Praise from the big boys. Just like Mowzer, knows everything says little.

Pull your eyes out for the best Halloween event to ever happen in Cornwall. On Saturday 30th October THE MASKED BALL will take the Sandsifter back to it's glory days and beyond with an all night marquee event and an exciting collaboration with US.

It's just like the summer Masked Ball but scary and you can wear heels, no grassy knolls to slip down but a bloody good night hosted in three areas with incredi...ble decor and a pumping atmosphere.

The tent will be heated, there will be films and interactive props, drinks and ghosts, music and pumpkins, a Cornish werewolf in Vienna and tricks and treats as we take the regions biggest one off event to a new location.

Pousser l'enveloppe

Hopefully you trust us when it comes to djs by now so we're going to push the envelope a little with our first international booking from the Institubes label in Paris. Learn about this man, he's Surkin's label mate and he's going to fuck things up.

JEAN NIPON
We don’t expect you to know who Jean Nipon is because he played some time ago for Jac The Disco's London club night 'Last One In's A Rotten Egg' and people still talk about it to this day. Nipon is a fractious, peculiar creature. He agrees to no rules and no higher power, and under the veil of unassailable coolness, remains an enigma.

Jean Nipon started out as a drummer in Hardcore bands, lived in Japan for a year and has designed a Coke bottle. He started DJing in 97. At first it was a cheap ploy to get more in touch with his fellow humans (read: get girls). Then it became something of an art form, and many a reveler remembers his seven-hour sets at Paris Paris where, as a resident, he would play the latest bangers in custom-edited form, plus Prince, Minor Threat, Aphex Twin and the Beastie Boys, Dinosaur Jr and Lio, Pink Floyd and Shellac, My Bloody Valentine and KRS One.

What he does with those CD decks... Nobody can touch him.

After a highly credible career of colabs and studio genious Jean is stepping up on his own as a member of the Institubes family, with full privileges. He brings with him a precious knowledge of the obscure and the mainstream, of the rare and the common, and that’s what makes him so bloody necessary.

He will destroy it and he will shout at you in French.

They Have DJ’d at some of the world’s finest clubs and clubnights, including Bugged Out,Zouk, Glastonbury Dance Village, Paris Social Club, Herve & Sinden’s clubnight, Mega Mega Mega, Trash, We Are Your Friends, Moda, Glasgow’s Death Disco, Annie Mac Presents…, Reclaim the Dancefloor in Ibiza and Fabric.

Many happy returns Lizzie

It's Lizzie's official birthday, she's 109 and loves cutting edge dance music, bless her... We saw a gap in the very hectic calender of one of the most in demand djs out there right now and decided to throw another party...

Riton
The name Riton is French slang for 'Henry'. Henry's career in dance music began in the 1990s, he's done many alright things like start his own label 'Switch Recordings' sign to Manchester's Grand Central' and release a couple of highly credited albums. Last year saw a stunning colab with Primary 1 on 'Who's There' [released on Erol Alkan's Phantasy Sound label] and a slew of incredible remixes - his take on Kid Sister's 'Right Hand Hi' destroyed clubs the world over. Riton has supported Soulwax / 2 Many DJ's on Tour and 2010 so far has him touring the globe and releasing on Ed Banger records with DJ Mehdi as Carte Blanche, playing around with Seiji [Computer Juice] as well as more things with Primary One.

Basically Riton is red hot, anywhere in the world, right now. Go look at his myspace calender and it may seem ridiculous that he's coming to St Ives, but he is, so there........Get Ready!!!!

Goodbye Winter, hello Foamo

4 months after he got held hostage in Brussels by the Icy Bastard known as Winter he finally makes his southwest debut with us. Two weeks after the start of BST we say Goodbye Winter, hello Foamo.

Oh, and he's even bigger now....

Foamo
Kye Gibbon happens to be a producer and DJ from High Wycombe, going by the name of Foamo. Receiving attention from the likes of MSTRKRFT, Drop The Lime, Crookers, Diplo and Kissy Sell Out must be nice. Making music and drawing buildings since the age of 13 influenced him crafting his own category of electro that often revolves around a filthy bassline and kinetic beats. A resident of Chew the Fat! alongside A1 Bassline and Hervé would be enough for most people but he's now releasing tracks with Lee Mortimer. Keep a withered eye out, he's getting massive.

Our first birthday

We were born a year ago at the sandsifter, just at the end of the Holloway era. When your birthday falls close to that of the Lord's you tend to get combined birthday and Xmas presents, which can either suck or be massive. Foamo got stuck in Brussels, rather than mope about we have our biggest act yet as a replacement: The Filthy Dukes. Huge Album, huge fabriclive album, fabric superstars, huge, huge. Going to smash it

The Filthy Dukes
First shaking up London's club scene with Kill 'Em All at the Barfly, the Dukes were first to some of this decade's biggest bands. Now a residency at fabric, the night's gone from strength to strength, as are its promoters, the Filthy Dukes who are now both a globe-trotting live band and a lethal DJ duo capable of turning a dancefloor into sweating mush in a matter of records.

With their vibrant club night Kill Em All, the Filthy Dukes have made an individual and indelible impact on the nightlife landscape of London. True pioneers in their own right, Kill Em All first struck a chord at Camden's unassuming Barfly in 2001, after the pair recognised a thirst amongst a public raised on both guitars and electronic music. Bored of the dull notion that the two scenes should be kept separate, the Filthy Dukes (Olly Dixon and Tim Lawton) decided to unite dancefloor-geared DJs with hard-edged scuzzy rockers, and went on a quest for artist that embraced both disciplines.

JAYMO & ANDY GEORGE
In our humble opinion, the best thing to happen to the national airwaves since Wogan. In April last year Jaymo and Andy were the youngest ever djs to be asked to record an Essential Mix, impressing station bosses sufficiently to be given their own show on 'In New DJs We Trust' and now they're taking their sound global ! as well as regularly sitting in for Kissy Sell Out and Annie Mac.
